SYNOPSIS

Erin Brockovich (Julia Roberts) is a twice-divorced single mother who, after losing her lawsuit against a wealthy doctor, forces her lawyer Ed Masry (Albert Finney) to give her a job in his law firm as compensation.

With her revealing clothes and sassy personality, she gets little respect in the office, until she discovers a cover-up involving a local water company pumping out contaminated water into the local community with disastrous affects. Erin investigates and soon earns the trust and respect of the local residents as she fights for their rights.

With the trust of the locals and the support of her biker-boyfriend George (Aaron Eckhart) Erin and Ed prepare to fight for the largest settlement ever paid out in a direct-action lawsuit in US history.

Based on a true story (and featuring the real Erin Brockovich-Ellis and Ed Masry in cameo roles) this David and Goliath tale received Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and won Julia Roberts her first Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of Erin.
